About the Book

If you had unconscious barriers that prevented audacious freethinking would you be willing to embark on a challenging and exilirating journey to crash through those barriers?

For instance, from an audaciously negative freethinking view we can see life as psychiatrist H.D. Laing saw it, "A sexually transmitted disease with a mortality rate of one hundred percent." But from a just as valid, audaciously positive freethinking view, life can be seen as filled with wondrous freebies including a yearly 600 million mile, totally free trip around our free energy sun for everyone, with four free, beautifully changing seasons thrown in for the ride.

To fully realize our freethinking ideal we liberals need to stretch freethinking boundaries as far as they can go in both negative and positive ways -- and in every important sphere. The resulting revelations expand expectations about what could be your, and liberalism's, glorious future. And given the victory of Trump conservatism it's time to rigorously reexamine our philosophical roots, and to become as freethinking and mature as possible in politics and life. To do so buy a copy right now, or read some free chapters at www.BranyonsUltimateFreethinking.com.

Or do you need more examples? Apply audacious freethinking to humanity's fascination with gold, diamonds and other precious stones. It's quickly revealed to be a logjam of superficial meaning around what are actually just shiny rocks. Fear of exploring meaninglessness often causes liberals to prematurely clutch at superficial meanings like these.

Hold up what I call the "meaningless standard" to precious stones and they quickly return to what they basically are: chemical compounds with a high refraction index causing them to reflect lots of light. Fool's gold, cubic zirconium and colored glass all reflect light well enough and, except to ex-perts, appear as bright.

Liberating Liberals bridles "bad" boys Nietzsche, Machiavelli and Marx (Groucho, not Karl) to make sure liberal compassion, guilt and PC correctness don't inhibit the swashbuckling recklessness needed for the journey. While it also harnesses "good" guys Jesus, Gandhi and Vonnegut to prevent paralyzing cynicism and protect liberal virtues.

Another example is Saul Bellow maintaining that "A thought murder a day keeps the psychiatrist away." Liberal morality, in its wonderful compassionate earnestness, assumes it's taboo to even think about murder. Whereas Bellow contends that just thinking about murder has great mental health benefits -- as long as you don't actually murder someone.

Although most liberals fervently believe in freethinking, we haven't really followed freethinking's possibilities to the icy, netherworlds of total meaninglessness, complete moral relativity, or unmitigated mockery in which much of the core of freethinking lies. But these apparently undesirable destinations may be necessary if you're to find durable meaning, enduring morality, and solid seriousness that are freethinkingly yours -- and not the result of some railroading fundamentalism or historical momentums.

Using an additional huge zoo of wise guides stretching from Joni Mitchell to Albert Camus, Ayn Rand to Eckhart Tolle, Liberating Liberals extracts so many freethinking insights that it may be the historical sequel to Thomas Paine's intellectual dynamite, Common Sense.
