Nativa y su hija Leticia habían salido de compras para encontrar atuendos nuevos para la fiesta de la noche. Al subir al vehículo, Leticia le consultó a su madre si podría llevarla a la casa de Mariuxi, su compañera del colegio. La respuesta de Nativa fue un rotundo "no". Dijo que su padre estaría en casa y se pondría bravo si no la veía. Leticia resignadamente aceptó y dijo que llamaría a Mariuxi cuando llegara a casa.
Cuando arribaron a casa, se encontraron con Don Pedro saliendo junto a Mauricio, un empleado y hombre de confianza. Nativa le preguntó a su esposo a dónde iba, pero él respondió secamente que tenía algunas cosas que hacer. Leticia ingresó a la casa y llamó a Mariuxi para disculparse, pero Mariuxi le dijo que no se preocupara ya que se verían en la fiesta de casamiento esa noche. Leticia le comentó que habían ido a comprar ropa con su madre. Mientras hablaba, vio a Francisco entrar a la casa. Leticia señaló el jardín cuando Francisco le preguntó dónde estaba su madre. Luego le preguntó si iría a la boda, y Francisco asintió con la cabeza.
Esa noche, Leticia estaba sentada junto a su familia en la iglesia. Había mucha gente. Al salir de la iglesia, todos se acercaron a saludar a los novios y las familias de Leticia y Mariuxi aprovecharon para encontrarse ya que las chicas iban al mismo colegio. En la fiesta, ocuparon la misma mesa. Nativa se sentó junto a Elvia, la madre de Mariuxi, que estaba sola porque su esposo estaba de viaje por negocios.
En pocos minutos, todos estaban bailando. Don Pedro sacó a bailar a Nativa y un amigo de la familia invitó a Elvia a bailar. Mariuxi y Leticia disfrutaron de la fiesta junto a sus amigos y compañeros del colegio mientras Francisco conversaba con una amiga en otra parte del salón. Al terminar la fiesta, la familia de Leticia se dirigió al carro. Pedro comentó que fue una excelente boda y una fiesta muy linda. Mirando a Leticia, le dijo: "Estás hermosa. Vas a salir de mi casa pedida como Dios manda". Leticia, con sus 16 años, afirmó sonriendo más por el halago que por las palabras.
Nativa, a pesar de tener 36 años, fue criada con buenos principios y era muy estricta con Leticia al igual que Don Pedro quien decía que ella era su princesa. Leticia estudiaba en un colegio de religiosas y era llevada y traída por el conductor de la casa. Aunque tenía un simpatizante Maximiliano quien la esperaba en la puerta del colegio para darle un saludo y un furtivo beso en la boca.
Cuando Leticia entró al vehículo, Mauricio, asistente de su progenitor y conductor de la familia, le inquirió quién era ese muchacho. Leticia sonrió y respondió "Un amigo". "Sí", dijo Mauricio, "ahora le dicen amigo". Leticia lo observó a través del espejo retrovisor y le dijo: "No le dirás a mi madre nada de lo que viste". Mauricio replicó "No se preocupe niña Leticia, no le diré nada. Despreocúpese".
Cuando arribaron a casa, Nativa y su hijo Francisco estaban en el sofá de la sala conversando sobre su próxima partida para estudiar en el extranjero. La familia de Leticia residía en una hacienda; la vivienda era muy grande, casi una mansión. Leticia ingresó a su hogar y saludó a su mamá y a Francisco. Él le preguntó cómo le había ido y ella le dijo que bien, pero un poco agotada. Leticia se quedó sentada en el mueble mientras que su papá, Pedro, estaba en la ciudad ya que era dueño y socio de hoteles muy lujosos. Pedro se encontraba en una reunión con los demás socios; eran como tres más con Pedro.
