Les enfants parlent comme des adultes sortant de l'Académie, c'est parfois kitch, parfois cucul, mais cela se laisse lire avec plaisir et ravira, on peut en être certain, tous les enfants d'aujourd'hui et de demain.

Et, avant que personne n'ait eu le temps de s'y opposer, elle tira de dessous son châle une forte verge, s'élança sur Sophie et la fouetta à coups redoublés, malgré les cris de la pauvre petite...

About the Author: Née Rostopchine, la Comtesse de Ségur, a commencé à écrire pour les enfants sur le tard, dans la cinquantaine. C'est une écrivaine française, d'origine russe. Hormis les contes, elle écrit des histoires d'enfants, réalistes, relatant les pratiques éducatives et le quotidien familial du dix-neuvième siècle en France. Appelée le Balzac des enfants, la Comtesse de Ségur ne fait pas dans la dentelle pour décrire les châtiments corporels de l'époque, d'une façon très complaisante. On découvre aussi dans ses ouvrages les moeurs de la société au dix-neuvième siècle, comment les gens se parlent, comment on se soigne, non sans glisser ici ou là quelques clichés culturels. Dans ses histoires la dimension morale est essentielle. Récits quasi ethnographiques, les ouvrages de la Comtesse et conteuse de Ségur ont aussi esquissé une nouvelle approche de l'éducation des enfants.
