D'abord par l'engagement massif des ecrivains dans les luttes politiques: car toutes les bonnes plumes du temps se sont exercees a la polemique, ou de grands noms de notre litterature pre-classique et classique, Retz et La Rochefoucauld, Saint-Amant et Balzac, Cyrano et Scarron, Sarasin et Saint-Evremond, rejoignent des auteurs aujourd'hui moins connus, mais alors en renom: Scudery et Patru, Silhon et Naude, Benserade et Segrais, Boisrobert et Colletet, Furetiere et Arnauld d'Andilly, Marigny et Blot, bien d'autres encore. D'autre part, tous les courants litteraires ont contribue a l'expression de la revolte, tous les genres en prose et en vers - une mazarinade sur trois est en vers - y ont ete utilises, meme les genres dramatiques; le baroque declinant y cotoie le gout du romanesque, un manierisme precurseur de la preciosite envahit les pieces encomiastiques, le burlesque y explose en satires, en chansons, en triolets et en ballades.
