Ecrits d'Angleterre On sait que, des juin 1940, Albert Cohen rejoignit l'Angleterre pour continuer la lutte contre l'Allemagne nazie. Installe a Londres, il deviendra, en 1945, conseiller juridique du Comite intergouvernemental pour les refugies. Le present volume reunit trois textes de cette periode: - Angleterre, un hymne superbe a la grandeur de ce pays qui a porte de facon admirable l'esprit de resistance durant les annees de guerre - Churchill d'Angleterre, portrait inspire et lyrique du vieux lion et des annees de combat - le texte integral d'une conference prononcee a Geneve en janvier 1949 sur L'Organisation internationale pour les refugies et la protection juridique et politique. Magnifiques textes litteraires, dignes des meilleures pages romanesques d'Albert Cohen, ces Ecrits d'Angleterre etaient devenus introuvables depuis de nombreuses annees. Mort de Charlot suivi de "Projections ou apres-minuit a Geneve" et "Cher Orient" Ces textes, d'Albert Cohen, ont ete publies dans les annees 20 dans la Nouvelle Revue Francaise et dans la Revue Juive. Ils marquent l'entree en litterature du jeune Albert Cohen, remarque et admire par Jacques Riviere, directeur et animateur de la Nouvelle Revue Francaise puis, quelques temps apres par Max Jacob, Andre Spire, et Albert Einstein. Depuis lors, ces textes n'avaient jamais ete reedites. On y retrouve la langue, le style, et l'humour de l'auteur de Belle du Seigneur et de Mangeclous. Ils temoignent par ailleurs, selon Christel Peyrefitte " que la totalite des themes qui seront ulterieurement developpes jusqu'a l'obsession est deja presente ".
