Outre ce merite, les deux auteurs en ont un autre incontestable rendre l'oeuvre de Rabelais abordable pour le vulgaire que rebute l'obscurite d'expressions etrangeres ou vieillies, inspirer aux indifferents l'idee de la con naitre. Leur imitation, habituellement heureuse, ou le vers a du tour, la phrase de la rondeur et le mot du trait, atteindra son resultat en donnant a Rabelais un plus grand nombre de lecteurs et d'ad mirateurs. Nos deux ecrivains n'en sont pas d'ail leurs a faire avec le public une premiere connais sance. M. Fragonard est des longtemps estime dans les arts pour ses dessins Spirituels et ses elegantes illustrations; un succes dans les lettres ne sera pour lui qu'une palme cueillie dans un nouveau champ. M. Jules de Lamarque, auteur d'unehistoire de la Revolution francaise et d'ecrits divers, a donne de plus un gracieux petit volume de poesies sous le titre de Figurines, dont nous n'avons, pour le louer dignement, qu'a constater le succes tout litteraire.
