About the Book

A disciple of Louis Robert, Leopold Migeotte is a specialist of various aspects of ancient Greek urban finances, in particular indebtedness. In this important new study, he offers an overview of this subject, focusing in particular on: the means of financial administration, the diversity of revenues, and the relative simplicity of spending. Migeotte demonstrates that the different Greek financial systems had much in common, especially their attachment to direct democracy and popular control.
