About the Book

English summary: Andre Alcait (1492-1550), founder of legal humanism, is also the author of the first printed emblem book. The present book seeks to fill a gap in the many editions of his Emblemata by providing both the first complete French translation of the book since the sixteenth century as well as annotations on the work meant to highlight textual problems, historical or scholarly difficulties, and the identification of sources.
