Les Dents du Tigre est un roman de Maurice Leblanc mettant en scène les aventures d'Arsène Lupin, gentleman-cambrioleur, parue en juin 1921. Le roman connaît une pré-publication en feuilleton dans Le Journal en 1920, mais a été écrit par Maurice Leblanc pendant la Première Guerre mondiale en 1918. Il relate le combat poignant d'Arsène Lupin, en tant que Don Luis Perenna, contre un ennemi sournois et manipulateur qui n'agit que par procuration en captivant ses victimes afin de s'attribuer un héritage de 200 millions. Chronologiquement, cette histoire fait suite à 813 où Lupin disparaissait juste avant la Première Guerre mondiale dans l'anonymat de la légion étrangère après deux tentatives de suicide. Alors que tout le monde croit Arsène Lupin mort, il réapparaît donc après la guerre, sous les traits de Don Luis Perenna. Le roman paraît en librairie en juin 1921 en deux volumes: Don Luis Perenna et Le Secret de Florence. Ces oeuvres furent rassemblées ensuite en une seule: Les Dents du Tigre. Dans la première version, Lupin prenait sa retraite à la fin de cette aventure. Les Dents du Tigre font partie de cette veine d'ouvrages où Lupin n'est pas un maître infaillible se jouant de ses ennemis mais un homme avec ses faiblesses. Cela rend sa force de caractère plus impressionnante et nous rapproche du personnage.
About the Author: Marie Émile Maurice Leblanc est un écrivain français né le 11 décembre 1864[1], à Rouen, et mort le 6 novembre 1941, à Perpignan. Auteur de nombreux romans policiers et d'aventures, il est le créateur du célèbre personnage d'Arsène Lupin, le gentleman-cambrioleur. On peut visiter la maison de Maurice Leblanc, à Étretat, dans la Seine-Maritime. L'aiguille d'Étretat forme d'ailleurs l'un des décors du roman L'Aiguille creuse. Biographie: Maurice Leblanc est le deuxième enfant d'Émile Leblanc, armateur de trente-quatre ans, et de Mathilde Blanche, née Brohy, âgée de vingt et un ans. Il eut pour soeur cadette la cantatrice Georgette Leblanc, qui fut l'interprète de Maurice Maeterlinck et sa compagne de 1895 à 1918. Il refuse la carrière que son père lui destine dans une fabrique de cardes et monte à Paris pour écrire. D'abord journaliste, puis romancier et conteur (Des couples, Une femme, Voici des ailes), il éveille l'intérêt de Jules Renard et d'Alphonse Daudet, sans succès public. Il fréquente les grands noms de la littérature à Paris: Stéphane Mallarmé ou Alphonse Allais. En 1901, il publie L'Enthousiasme, roman autobiographique. En 1905, Pierre Lafitte, directeur du mensuel Je sais tout, lui commande une nouvelle sur le modèle du Raffles d'Ernest William Hornung: L'Arrestation d'Arsène Lupin. Deux ans plus tard, Arsène Lupin est publié en livre. La sortie d'Arsène Lupin contre Herlock Sholmès mécontente Conan Doyle, furieux de voir son détective Sherlock Holmes ( Herlock Sholmès ) et son faire-valoir Watson ( Wilson ) ridiculisés par des personnages parodiques créés par Maurice Leblanc. Domicile de Maurice Leblanc à Étretat, aujourd'hui musée. Maurice Leblanc reçut la Légion d'honneur, le 17 janvier 1908, des mains du sous-secrétaire d'état aux Beaux-Arts, Dujardin-Beaumetz député radical de l'Aude.
