About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A HISTORY OF SPAIN AS IT HAS NEVER BEEN TOLD.

THE SPANISH ORLANDO, BY THE RECIPIENT OF THE NATIONAL CRITICS AWARD AND THE CRITICAL EYE AWARD.

"Leonis confirms there is no one like him in our literature." --Eduardo Lago

"Simply, a genius." --Miguel Dalmau, La Vanguardia

Inés de Padilla is born in 1469, and at fifteen she is admitted into the University of Salamanca, at a time when women were banned from studying, safe in exceptional circumstances, such as Beatriz Galindo's. There she meets the man with whom she will have a long, on-and-off romance. Once in Madrid, she enters Ferdinand and Isabella's court, and becomes lady-in-waiting to Joanne the Mad. Being the lover of Juan de Padilla, she participates in the revolt of the comuneros. But at the beginning of the sixteenth century, she becomes aware of an inexplicable fact: she hasn't aged a day since she turned twenty-five. And so, she keeps on living, overcoming dangers, up until the early twenty-first century.

This amazing adventure novel, where fiction is masterfully intermixed with reality, constitutes a homage to Spanish literature. In it we hear the echoes of Virginia Woolf's Orlando, but most of all it is a winding narrative about the history of Spain and the decisive role of women through time.
