Durch die sich fortwährend verändernden Rahmenbedingungen des Apothekenmarktes hat sich in den letzten Jahren ein Trend zu Apothekenkooperationen gebildet, um die Marktpositionierung der inhabergeführten Apotheke zu stärken. Mehr als zwei Drittel der Apotheken in Deutschland sind inzwischen in mindestens einer Kooperation Mitglied. Die Vorteile für Apotheken scheinen klar auf der Hand zu liegen, wohingegen Risiken im Zusammenhang mit einem Kooperationsbeitritt kaum erörtert werden. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird untersucht, wodurch sich Leistungsbeziehungen in Apothekenkooperationen auszeichnen und welche Risiken sich dabei für die Apotheke ergeben können. Als Basis der Analyse wird die Prinzipal-Agenten-Theorie herangezogen. Die Übertragung ihrer Grundannahmen soll nicht nur Aufschluss über Problematiken innerhalb der Leistungsbeziehung zwischen Apotheke und Kooperationspartner, sondern auch Lösungsmöglichkeiten zur Risikoreduktion geben. Dazu wird zunächst dargestellt, welche Wettbewerbsbedingungen gegenwärtig für Apotheken bestehen, einschließlich der rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen, die mit Fremd- und Mehrbesitzverbot den wirtschaftlichen Spielraum eines Apothekers deutlich eingrenzen. Daraus ergibt sich die Argumentation für die Existenz von Kooperationsbeitritten inhabergeführter Apotheken, wobei in Abhängigkeit des Kooperationsvertrages der Bindungsgrad stark variiert.
