"Noten sind halt ungerecht, aber was willste machen?!"- mit diesem leicht resignativen Alltagszitat einer Sekundarschullehrerin wollen Hans Anand Pant und Silvia-Iris Beutel zum Ausdruck bringen, was die Diskussion um Notengebung als die dominierende Praxis der Leistungsbeurteilung in Deutschland immer noch auszeichne. Besonders wichtig scheint ihnen, wie auch anderen Autor*innen, auf die im Verlauf der Arbeit noch verwiesen wird, der gesellschaftliche Wandel in einer Wissensgesellschaft zu sein. Mit Blick auf das deutsche Bildungssystem und der Klassenarbeit als typisches Prüfungsformat für die Leistungsbeurteilung von Schüler*innen wirft diese Vorgehensweise viele Fragen auf, die in der Forschungsliteratur und auch in der Bildungspolitik regelmäßig energisch diskutiert werden. Als mögliche Lösungen für die dargestellte Problematik werden oft alternative Leistungsbeurteilungen, wie beispielsweise die Portfolioarbeit oder Projektarbeiten vorgeschlagen und diskutiert. In der Übergattung der Projektarbeiten lässt sich ebenfalls das Planspiel verorten, das als Lehr-Lernmethode vor allem in den Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften immer häufiger genutzt wird. Besonders die Faktoren des selbstregulierten Arbeitens und der Problemorientierung werden in der Literatur immer wieder als Vorteile dieser simulativen Makromethode herausgearbeitet. Besonders zu den methodisch-didaktischen Aspekten dieser Methode existiert eine Bandbreite an Literatur, jedoch gibt es bis heute nur wenig Forschung zur Nutzung von Planspielen als Prüfungsformat.
