Dies gilt als bestätigt, wenn nachgewiesen werden kann, dass Pfadfinden einen signifikanten Einfluss auf die Entwicklung von Führungskompetenz hat, beziehungsweise relevante Kompetenzen vermittelt, die Pfadfinder befähigt, erfolgreich zu führen. Daher leitet sich hieraus die primäre Forschungsfrage ab: "Beeinflusst Pfadfinden die persönliche Führungskompetenz?" Bereits 2006 schrieb das Handelsblatt über "die Manager vom Lagerfeuer" und zitierte den schwedischen König Carl Gustaf mit den Worten "Pfadfinder vermitteln Führungsqualitäten". Einige Jahre später, im April 2019 publizierte die WirtschaftsWoche einen detaillierten Artikel zum Thema Soft Skills mit dem Titel "Warum Pfadfinder gute Chefs werden". Dies begründet der Autor mit einer Reihe von Soft-Skills, die sich ein Pfadfinder bereits in jungen Jahren und während seiner Ausbildung aneignet. Hierzu zählen neben Entscheidungsfähigkeit, Gesprächsführung, Projektmanagement, auch Gruppenleitung, Teamarbeit und -führung oder allgemein das Übernehmen von Verantwortung. Allesamt Kompetenzen, die Unternehmen häufig durch teure Trainings an ihre Mitarbeiter vermitteln. Sollte sich diese Kausalität bestätigen lassen, wäre das besonders für eignungsdiagnostische Verfahren von großer Bedeutung, da es somit einen neuen Indikator für Führungskompetenz gäbe. Lässt sich fachliche Kompetenz noch durch einschlägige Berufserfahrung im Lebenslauf darstellen, wird es im Bereich der Persönlichkeits-, Sozial- und Methodenkompetenz deutlich schwieriger.
