About the Book

Have you ever wondered why some leaders stand heads above the crowd? What their secrets are and why their staff, colleagues, students and peers revere them so much? Leaders: Their Stories, Their Words is for anyone who aspires to be a leader in their organization and their own life. Now more than ever, effective leaders are needed to set the direction and tone of where to go, how to get there, and how to engage people along the way. Here is a collection of twelve insightful conversations between two leaders. When Donna Karlin, a renowned leadership coach, speaks with each extraordinary leader, she invites them to tell us their story. Every story sheds light on some of the experiences that contributed to their person's leadership style. These human-based leaders(TM) impact the talents, strengths, and achievements of those they inspire. While producing stunning results, they marry a passion for what they do with a compassion for those they lead. These leaders' stories enable us to easily connect to our own experiences, making sense and personalizing our insights and learning. The ebb and flow of animated dialog around a leader's story encourages us to become engaged and listen for what is meaningful to us. So read on. Discover new tools and practices so you can lead more powerfully. Shift your perspective. Be inspired.
About the Author: Donna Karlin is internationally recognized as a pioneer in the field of leadership coaching and is known for her specialized practice of Shadow Coaching(R). Through her company, A Better Perspective(R), Donna has worked with a diverse range of clients from global political, government, corporate and business leaders to medical professionals and creative designers. Donna has spent close to 30 years helping leaders figure out how to bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be. Early in her coaching career, Donna realized she was coaching clients' perceptions, not necessarily their reality. The seed of the Shadow Coaching(R) methodology was planted in the waiting room of a surgeon where her clients revealed their fears, their realities, and their truths. Now, almost three decades later, you will see Donna coach on the run with her clients through the halls of corporate headquarters, government departments, and agencies and political offices. She coaches extraordinary people to become even better than they ever thought possible. Donna is a member of the Advisory Council of The International Academy of Behavioral Medicine, Counseling and Psychotherapy (IABMCP), Past President and current Dean of the International Consortium for Coaching in Organizations, is a Founding Member of the Harvard Institute of Coaching Professional Association (ICPA), Communications Advisor and coach for Brussels, Belgium-based firm INSPIRIT International Communications, and a SupporTED Coach, a member of the team that coaches the TED Fellows. Her work has been written up in Fast Company Magazine, The National Post (Financial Post), The Globe and Mail, The New York Times Business Section, The Boston Globe, and Personal Success Magazine. She is an avid blogger; her blog Perspectives(TM) is subscribed to by readers from 145 countries and territories. She also is a leadership expert for Fast Company, a Platinum Author for Evan Carmichael, Motivation and Strategies for Entrepreneurs, and a contributor to IJCO The International Journal of Coaching in Organizations(TM). Donna has been certified by the IABMCP as a Diplomate in Professional Coaching, and was certified in Organizational Psychology with a focus in Executive Coaching by the Professional School of Psychology. She is based in Ottawa, Canada, and coaches, lectures, and presents keynotes in many parts of the world.
