Parmi les écrivains catholiques, Albert Frank-Duquesne (1896-1955) fut sans doute le plus qualifié pour traiter du problème juif . Fils d'un rabbin converti en 1864 au catholicisme, descendant par la lignée paternelle de Jacob Frank, le mystique antitalmoudique du 18ème siècle, et, par sa grand-mère maternelle de Henri Heine, initié dès sa plus tendre enfance à la pensée biblique et à la tradition rabbinique, disciple du maître-hébraïsant Paul Vulliaud, Frank-Duquesne n'a eu de cesse tout au long de sa vie de scruter les innombrables confluents de la question juive. Il réunissait en sa personne des dispositions physiques et psychiques, les conditions sine qua non, pour faire naître cette mentalité biblique qui le caractérisait tout entier. Claudel voyait sa vie comme une parabole, comme une prophétie de l'Israël réconcilié et des richesses qu'avec lui, du fond de son douloureux exode, il rapportera à l'Eglise .
Dans L'Éternelle actualité du problème juif) (1951), publié au seuil de ce recueil, l'écrivain examine cette question sous l'angle du surnaturel . Il s'agit pour l'écrivain de dévoiler le sens transhistorique du destin juif sous l'Ancienne Alliance, d'expliquer pourquoi Dieu a choisi Israël pour être son témoin dans le monde antique. Il s'emploie également à démontrer que la littérature affirmant la conversion nationale des juifs à la fin des temps est tirée, par extrapolation, d'un verset isolement pris et mal traduit de l'Epître aux Romains, auquel s'opposent d'autres textes pauliniens. Cette interprétation fausse, reposant sur un seul verset de saint Paul, est contraire à toute la perspective paulinienne du destin juif, telle qu'on peut l'inférer de nombreux autres passages, et se heurte à l'opinion exprimée par les Pères les plus anciens.
Ce texte qui pourrait figurer dans le panthéon de la théologie du 20ème siècle abonde en passages admirables: la méditation sur les Psaumes où se dévoile le tout de l'âme juive, l'étude symbolique du rite de la circoncision, mais aussi des vues très originales sur le destin juif, des commentaires inspirés de certains textes rabbiniques, de plusieurs épîtres de saint Paul. Il est suivi par une série d'articles publiés dans diverses revues entre 1950 et 1955, ainsi que d'un texte de jeunesse consacré à Chesterton.
