About the Book

English summary: From a study of the major issues disputed in countless treaties -- both political and theological -- that flourished at the time of the quarrel between Pope Boniface VII and King Philip the Fair, Gianluca Briguglia analyzes the relationship between theology and political theory and notes the emergence of the founding categories of modern political thought. Based on the writings of Godefroid de Fontaine, Jacques de Viterbe, Jean de Paris and Gilles de Rome, the author attempts to identify the theoretical and practical implications of the topics debated by these eminent theologians.
