Wann immer Personen des öffentlichen Lebens oder im Privaten in der Diskussion, sei sie nun direkt oder in medialer Übermittlung geführt, polarisieren und eine Zuspitzung bezwecken wollen, erreichen sie oft ihr Bezwecktes. Es wird sich empört, es wird kritisiert, alles in allem nimmt man die Zurückweisung der Zuspitzung oft lauter und erregter vor, als wenn ein Argument auf vernünftig-sachlicher Ebene vorgetragen worden wäre. Es gehört also zum Wesen der Polarisierung, dass die Resonanz (in der deutschen Alltagssprache oft nur noch als Feedbacks bezeichnet) auf ein Argument bei ihr oft um ein vielfaches höher ist, als wenn man eine bestimmte Position nüchtern, wertneutral und evtl. auch mit einer höheren Sachkenntnis vorgebracht hätte. Was thematisch im Alltag oft und in der politisch hitzigen Situation der Gegenwart wiederkehrend zu beobachten ist, lässt sich auch für den Bereich der Wissenschaft, mit Sicherheit aber für die Politische Wissenschaft vermuten, die sich genuin durch eine recht antagonistische Dialektik auszeichnet. Dass Polarisierung strenggenommen keine wissenschaftliche Kategorie darstellen soll und darf, ist dem Verfasser bewusst. Dennoch gelangten wissenschaftlich erprobte und gestandene Persönlichkeiten gerade durch ihre zugespitzten und pointierten Schriften zu der überragenden Bekanntheit, die oft noch bis in die heutigen Tage hineinreicht. Bekannt ist im Bereich der Politischen Wissenschaft vor allem Jean-Jaques Rousseau, der in den Jahren 1750 bis 1755 maßgeblich durch zwei überspitzt formulierte Abhandlungen ("über die Wissenschaften und Künste" sowie "über den Ursprung und die Grundlagen der Ungleichheit unter den Menschen") bekannt wurde. Dass vor allem erstere von ihm durch blühende Metaphorik, Übertreibung und Überspitzung
