About the Book

You want to discover the cultural treasures of one of the most fascinating cities in the world from a specialist? This is the book for you!

(look also for the new edition, 'Paris disclosed', in black and white ISBN 979-8672955100 https: //www.amazon.com/dp/B08F6DJ7J2 and in colour ISBN 979-8673982648 https: //www.amazon.com/dp/B08FKQK292)

This is not just another Paris travel guide. The originality of this book lies in the fact that it describes all the main cultural sights of Paris with a focus on Le Marais, the most historical and best-preserved neighbourhood in the French capital, that escaped the city's transformation in the 19th century. This is done in the belief that this approach helps the visitor understand better this multi-layered and therefore complex -and, for this reason, fascinating- city.

This book, based mainly on a large number of colour photos, accompanied by concise historical and architectural explanations, endeavours to reveal the treasures of Paris, including the less known ones, to the visitor who desires to discover them.

Along with all the well-known sights of Paris, from Notre Dame to the Eiffel tower, it presents interesting but not always sufficiently known museums, luxurious mansions, with sumptuous courtyard façades and lovely gardens hidden behind high walls, medieval houses with a wooden framework and Gothic basements and even the castle of 'the Primate of France'.

The author of this book holds a PhD in Architectural History from the National Technical University of Athens and a master's in heritage preservation from the Ecole de Chaillot of Paris. He is a professor at the University of the Peloponnese, where he teaches these subjects. He is also a fervent cultural hiker.

His travel books (mostly about Greece) are addressed to you, the reader with a special interest in cultural sites. In order to help you better understand and remember these sites, they are written as a guided tour. They include encounters with interesting people and other personal travel experiences which will help you organize your own trip beyond the tourist clichés.
