A propos du livre:
  • Le Fantôme de l'Opéra est un roman français fantastique. Le roman paraît en volume chez Pierre Lafitte en mars 19103. Il paraît encore dans divers journaux, dont L'Écho d'Alger du 16 mars 1925 au 23 avril 1925.
  • Le roman est inspiré par une histoire d'amour de l'ancien opéra et par des rumeurs qui ont couru sur de prétendus mystères provenant des dédales souterrains de l'Opéra Garnier à Paris dans la deuxième moitié du xixe siècle et de l'incendie, très réel celui-là, du Bazar de la Charité le 4 mai 1897. Gaston Leroux s'inspire également du roman Trilby de George du Maurier, écrit par Gaston Leroux et publié en 1910.
