Le Coeur Australie est un bol d'air initiatique à déguster sans modération. C'est un récit de voyage où prime l'expérience vécue, sans filtre. Entre solitudes amoureuses et politiques, le bonheur simple de la route y est une solution à l'ennui.

Tournant en rond dans sa vie et ses études à l'université de Droit, Valentin décide de partir en Australie, comme ça, pour rien - et surtout sans s'y connaitre. De petits boulots en soirées festives, il rencontre des héros et des héroïnes de la route - celle-ci les mène, par exemple, de Perth à Sydney et de Darwin à Kununurra.

Il y a parfois des géographies parallèles, comme l'Ukraine et l'Espagne, d'où Valentin écrit ses lignes; lieux d'espoir et de danger, qui inspirent des réflexions plus intimes et personnelles.

Nous habitions au trente-sixième étage de la World Tower, lits loués par ce que nous appelions la mafia chinoise. L'appartement était franchement bien, il était cependant surpeuplé selon les jours et les nuits c'était, en gros, du quatre par chambre, sans oublier la véranda ― où Rudy et moi dormions. À part ça il y avait de jolies Suédoises, des Suédois sûrement beaux gosses mais insupportables, des Anglais, une Allemande, tout ça tournait pas mal et nous n'avions de toute façon pas trop l'occasion de faire la fête ensemble ou d'échanger sur des sujets pertinents ― Nous n'avions plus un sou à ces fins, je veux dire, socialiser coûte cher en alcool. Le loyer n'était pas forcément donné, néanmoins ça valait la vue ainsi que piscine gym et sauna à l'étage supérieur. Pour résumer, on était encore pauvres mais avec la classe.

On avait la classe et la confiance dans l'avenir. N'en déplaise aux cris d'alarme du chômage des nomades comme nous à Sydney, on avait peur de rien. CV imprimés, on a décidé d'arpenter les rues de la ville chacun dans sa direction, pour voir, et le destin s'est fait sympa avec nous. Rudy a trouvé du boulot dans un restaurant de la place. Le récit de son recrutement vaut le détour:

Je rentre dans le restau, et le téléphone sonne. Là, y a un serveur au loin qui me fait des signes genre vas-y, réponds, tu vois pas que suis trop loin. Moi je croyais qu'il déconnait alors je bouge pas, sauf que le mec insiste, donc je finis par décrocher, au bout du fil on demande le boss. Je dis, quittez pas il va pas tarder, après quoi le serveur me prend l'appareil et assure la suite de la conversation. Il raccroche, me tend son poing et me fait, merci mec, tu veux un café ? Alors je lui dis ben, à la base je suis venu chercher du travail mais je veux bien un café quand même. De fil en aiguille on a fini par parler de ma recherche de taf et voilà que j'étais embauché !

Quant à moi j'ai pas eu à répondre au téléphone mais pareil, je suis rentré au Wagamama de Crown Street, j'ai donné mon CV et l'affaire était dans le sac ― j'étais devenu serveur et barman dans un restaurant asiatique pas trop mal. Double et triple classe, on avait vraiment la classe.
