E primieramente, perch� mai I' Evangelista, si sobrio e si parco nelle sue espressioni, e che spesso, all'uso ebraico, in dica i fatti tacendo e lasciando argomentare al lettore le cir costanze che li precedettero, nella presente istoria avverte che i Magi entrarono, intrantes? Non sembra questa una pa rola superflua? Vi era forse bisogno per far sapere che i Magi ritrovarono Ges� Cristo, di dire che entrarono nel luogo in cui era? E poi perch� ehiamar casa, intrantes doma..., la misera abbandonata spelonca in cui si trovava il Signore? Qualche interprete afferma che l' adorazione dei Magi non avvenne nella stalla in cui era nato Ges� Cristo, ma in una casa vicina dove, poco dapo la sua nascita, era stato trasfe rito. Ma questa spiegazione � contraria al sentimento quasi unanime dei padri ed alla tradizione che tiene, cheil Sal vatore nello stesso luogo in cui nacque, e fu riconosciuto dai pastori e fu adorato dai Magi. Ed era conforme al di segno di profonda sapienza onde degnossi di nascere come I' ultimo degli uomini in una stalla il mostrarsi in questo stato d' infinita umiliazione non solo ai Giudei ma ancora ai gentili. Sembrami adunque che la parola casa sia stata ado perata dall' Evangelista per indicarci un mistero; poich� � regola costante nell' interpretazione dei Libri Santi che, quando vi s'incontrano espressioni o parole che nel senso litterale non hanno un significato proprio, preciso, impor tante, bisogna crederle misteriose e profetiche. Ricordiamo perci� nel caso presente che, quando Gabriele annunzio alla purissima Vergine il miracoloso concepimento e la na colto di Ges� Cristo, le disse fra le altre queste parole Egli regner� eternamente nella casa di Giacobbe: lie guabil in lonza Jacob in (eterna... (luc. Ora il venera bile Beda sull'autorit� di molti antichi Padri dice che l'an giolo colle parole casa di Giacobbe volle indicare la Chiesa universale composta dei Giudei fedeli veri diseca denti di Giacobbe, e dei gentili, che per merito della loro fede a questa santa radice furono, secondo S. Paolo, innestati come un olivo selvaggio nel domestico olivo: Domu... Ja cob tota... Ecclesia... dicit, vel quae de bona radice na vel quae cu... oleaster esset, merito tamen fidei in (ranno... oliva... inserto est (in i E Tito hostrense dice pure La casa di Giacobbe non significava solo la nazione giu daien; ma la riunione di tutti gli uomini ancora che, per la grazia del nostro divin Salvatore, da tutte le nazioni e da tutti i popoli sarebbero entrati a parte della santa adozione dei figli di Dio: Per lama... Jacob non Judworum tanta... gente... significat, sed omnes camino homines qui, per Sal volaris nostri gratiam, ex onmibus gentibus et natiouibus saactorum adoptione potiuntur in Ed i Profeti an cora sotto il titolo di casa DI Gucoam: avean vaticinata la Chiesa. Col dire adunque l' Evangelista dei Magi: essi en trarono nella casa, come in una casa gi� nota, sembrami che abbia voluto indicare la casa di Giacobbe di cui l'an giolo e prima di lui i Profeti avean tanto parlato cio� a dire la Chiesa.
