About the Book

Globalization is a problem, but it is often interpreted as the production of an "uncertain world." But Anthropology and history are not merely conjectural: human culture contains constant features, the repetition of which can give rise to certainties as well-founded as those of climatology. We know, for example, that societies function as orchestral conversations (G. Châtelet), and that these take place as logical processes ranging from the open metaphor to the self-reference closing all debates. Historical cycles correspond to each of these conversations, but they also articulate in a General History, which is also analyzable as a process of stages of speech acts. Globalization is a massive, comprehensive and probably "complete" effect in terms of logic, which has foreseeable consequences, including disorientation resulting from paradoxes, antinomies and other implications of unity and self-defining circles. The uniqueness of the "global" implies, for instance, the impossibility of comparing our present situation with other moments and experiences. These processes, which give a "sense" to history, have rarely been taken into account in order to understand political evolution and are often denied, repressed, while their impact on our lives and that of our descendants can be considerable. This book explores the problem of the direction of our future by the structures - often unconscious - of human culture. Some words like society, democracy, empire, world, plurality, are witnesses of the inexorable movements imposed on us by culture. If we wish to continue talking - while algorithms are forms of closure of these processes - we should be more attentive to these invisible structures which "change" us on the long term.
