A wife's vow leads to an unexpected choice in K. M. Hue's emotional memoir, The Last Promise.
When K. M. Hue receives a phone call early one morning from her husband, Paul, her delight quickly turns to dread. A soldier stationed in Iraq, his voice told her something was wrong. And she was right-Paul was being transferred to Germany after being diagnosed with cancer.
From that moment on, Hue and her husband struggle with the emotional and physical hurdles that a cancer diagnosis brings. Foremost on their minds is helping their four-year-old son cope with the drastic changes that immediately turn their lives upside down.
The family's hope is renewed, however, when Paul survives a successful stem-cell transplant. But soon the doctors discover complications, including the fact that his cancer is not entirely gone.
As they face the fact that Paul will not make it, he extracts a promise that she isn't sure she can keep.
Although incredulous at first, a couple years after Paul's death, Hue is able to fulfill the promise she made to him...a promise that changes her life forever.
