THE book of Daniel was written during the sixth century BC (approximately 535 BC) and contains amazingly detailed prophecies concerning future empires and world events. Whilst it is true that no human being could have the ability to foretell so much detail of future history, our God, who knows all future events, has exactly that ability. God's prophetic Word is specific and accurate and history has shown that so far these prophecies have been 100% fulfilled. Whilst the detailed prophecies of what to us are now past empires are amazing, and faith inspiring, what is even more relevant to us in this generation, are the prophecies dealing with events leading up to the return of Jesus. God predicted, through His prophet Daniel, exactly what world empires would arise throughout the history of mankind and also foretold what these Empires would be like. But the descriptions given in Daniel show that there is still one Empire yet to arise. Are we seeing the beginnings of this global empire coming to power in our lifetimes? If so what does this mean for our future and the future of our children? God does indeed give us an exact description of this future world empire and its leader. He also warns us to watch for the signs and be ready as the rise of this Kingdom will herald in an unprecedented time of worldwide calamity and distress. But Daniel is also a book of encouragement for those who look towards the return of Jesus Christ so read it and rejoice for our God is in control!
About the Author: When I was a teenager a young minister allowed all the teenagers in our rural area the use of his church hall on a Saturday night for dances on the understanding that we attend his Bible study classes on a Sunday morning. I don't recall that any of us teenagers gave our lives to the Lord as we would know it now but there is no doubt in my mind that the grounding this wonderful man of God gave us had a huge impact on how we progressed through our lives from then on. Many years later two of the teenagers that I used to spend time with at the church youth group invited us to attend a church service where they said they had found God! It took months of persuading but eventually we agreed to attend a Sunday evening service with them. There is not a lot that we remember about that night except that we found ourselves at the front of the congregation responding to an altar call to give our lives to Jesus. Our lives were changed forever that night. From that day forward under the direction and encouragement of the various senior Pastors and staff we grew and matured in our faith. Within a short time I became a deacon responsible for property and I have worked in some way for the church ever since. Early in my Christian walk various Pastors encouraged me to pursue my interest in Bible prophecy and future events, something that had been birthed in me the first time I heard a message that Jesus was coming back. I started writing articles on this subject which were eventually picked up by overseas Christian publications and at one point were being read in 16 countries worldwide. I received numerous invitations to teach overseas but rightly or wrongly I never felt the calling to accept these and only accepted local invitations. Currently I serve as property manager, community chaplain and funeral celebrant for my church. Although I am now looking forward to imminent retirement from my daily role I also look forward to spending more time writing.
