About the Book

English summary: Michel De Jaeghere offers a provocative revision of recent histories of the fall of the Roman Empire. Over the course of the twentieth century, historians have insisted on the transitory nature of this fall, on the accommodations, adaptations, and negotiated relations between Romans and Barbarians. The present volume concentrates on the events and political history of this period, events that highlight the violence and brutal nature of this transition. This particular vision of politicizes Late Antiquity and hypothesizes about the confrontation between foreign populations and native Romans that would have brought about the end of the Empire.
