To begin with, my book isn't about basketball. My copyright number TXu-2-008-280, is for my novel and its title. It was granted on April 15, 2016. After 3 emails, the suits at ESPN never had the courtesy to call and discuss the use of my title!Before writing a description of my novel, I wanted to explain my motivation for attempting to become an author, at seventy-plus years of age. After a lifetime of stereotypes in media, I decided to work on a positive portrayal of Mexicans in America. Believe it or not, all Hispanics are not drug dealers or bandits! My knowledge, comes from almost 80 years of living among professionals, war heroes and just plain folks. This is not to say, that I haven't known my share of crooks, thieves and scoundrels, which proportionally, is the same as any other group in America. Hopefully you will enjoy reading The Last Dance.A covert U.S. agency, has discovered a plot to smuggle members of ISIS, across Americas southern border. Involved, is a Middle Eastern terrorist and Mexico's most notorious drug czar. Facing this danger, the agency has a problem. Their best Mexican operative has left the organization. In the clandestine World of 2014, Jess Villa no longer fit in. He was old school and had two liabilities, he hated office politics and incompetent managers. Fed up, and without another choice, he makes a hasty decision to retire. Looking for a spiritual location to begin his new life, he picks the Black Hills of South Dakota. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Republicans control the state and think anyone with liberal views, has to be a subversive. Within a short time, the expression "you can't swing a dead cat by the tail without hitting a dozen of em", becomes Villa's mantra. Adding to his dilemma, is the fact that he hates golf; and believes nothing could be weirder, than a grown man chasing a ball in a motorized cart! Not only that, he refuses to play bingo or canasta; those activities were for old people!Bored with retirement Villa longs for a past life; but must first answer several questions. I'm 60 plus, have I grown old? How much have I lost? Can I still compete? Can I still fall in love? Struggling with his new lifestyle, an event occurs, that can can only be described as an apparition. A stranger appears and reminds Villa of his dilemma. As Their discussion concludes, two things happen, the man vanishes and Villa receives a telephone call from his former employer! Surprised by the chain of events, Villa agrees to a meeting in New York. Awaiting him is the type of manager that influenced his decision to retire; a beautiful woman from his past, a mission to save America from terrorist, the chance to get the old band back together again, and most importantly; the opportunity for one last dance! In summation, I have lived the sections of my book, that deal with office politics, inept managers and conservative Republicans. Which made it easy when writing my novel.
