About the Author: Lars Forssell (1928-2007) nació en Estocolmo. Después del bachillerato cursó estudios en EE UU y luego en la Universidad de Upsala donde se licenció en Filosofía y Letras. A los 20 años con su ensayo Den anonyma dikten (1948) trazó una línea clara de separación entre la generación poética de entreguerras y la de la posguerra. Al año siguiente debutó con el poemario Ryttaren (El jinete), y en 1952, con Narren (El bufón), marcó el comienzo de la generación de los 50. Propone aniquilar la torre de marfil y anhela que soplen todos los vientos por sus ruinas, ataca el buen gusto y se rebela contra la tiranía de las reglas y la división en géneros literarios. El poemario En kärleksdikt (Un poema de amor), 1960, tuvo gran impacto por su erotismo abierto. En Röster (Voces), 1964, hay una larga suite sobre Nijinski en la que utiliza la voz del bailarín para presentar el dilema del artista. El poemario Oktoberdikter (Poemas de octubre), 1971, constituye un ejemplo de poesía comprometida con su tiempo e incluye una suite sobre Lenin, que puede considerarse como uno de los mejores poemas políticos suecos. En 1999 el parlamento le encarga el texto de una cantata para celebrar la entrada al siglo XXI que es el reconocimiento de Forssell como poeta nacional. Además de poeta Forssell es uno de los grandes dramaturgos suecos. Escribió largos dramas históricos, tragedias contemporáneas y piezas breves. En su producción coexisten la poesía elitista y la canción popular. Introdujo en Suecia la canción francesa. Su trabajo como letrista de canciones cimentó su popularidad. En Snurra min jord och andra visor (Gira tierra mía y otras canciones) recoge sus canciones. Como traductor se movió admirablemente en un terreno que iba desde canciones de Boris Vian hasta Moliere o el Peer Gynt de Ibsen. Ezra Pound nunca olvidó la temprana traducción que hizo de su obra al sueco. Forssell publicó numerosos artículos de crítica literaria y de temas políticos y sociales, siempre desde posiciones políticas radicales. En 1971 fue elegido miembro de la Academia sueca. Recibió innumerables premios literarios entre los que destacan el Carl Emil Englund, el Bellman (dos veces), De nios pris (El premio de los Nueve ) y el premio Nórdico de la Academia sueca en 1998. Forssell es la figura indiscutible de la generación de los 50.
