The most important thing to always remember when planting above all else is to plant 'the right plant in the right place'. Put your hand over your heart and promise that you will always remember this. Planting the wrong plant in the wrong place will come back to haunt you every time. How do you know what is a good plant and what is a bad plant? It's not like the plant can really tell you more than what you can see. So, it's up to you to do some detective work to find out if a plant is healthy and will grow well. First, look at the plant you are interested in buying. Reputable nurseries will wait before putting plants out for sale that have recently been moved from a smaller pot to a larger one. You want to make sure that the plant or tree has not recently been moved because you will essentially be paying a bigger price for a smaller pot sized plant. You can tell if a plant has recently been put in a larger pot by digging around in the soil of the pot to see if the plant is loosely placed in the soil or if it comes up out of the soil easily when moved. Don't choose these plants; these are some of the bad plants.
