Tensions are high between the duchies of Septamania, Octamania, and Novamania, and the death of Sarah, the duke of Septamania's daughter, only heightens the turbulent political climate of Efacia.
When it seems like Sarah was murdered, a herald from the duchy of Octamania is tasked with unraveling the mystery. Sir Charles has his work cut out for him. Not only are relationships between the rival duchies strained, but there's every indication a powerful witch is involved-or at least working to turn the situation to her own profit.
While Sir Charles interacts with the zany and unpredictable citizens of Septamania, sinister forces plot against the prophetess, who faces a task even more daunting than the one Sir Charles must overcome. It falls to the prophetess to teach the people about the Good Shepherd, but most of the populace has no time for the Shepherd's loving message.
All will come to a head on the day of the tournament, when knight fights knight for honor and worldly glory. Unless Sir Charles and the prophetess can overcome their enemies, Efacia will fall into a trap from which the country may never recover.
