About the Book

If you enjoyed Edward Lear's The Owl and the Pussycat, you'll love the sequel that was shortlisted in London for the poetry prize awarded by The Times Literary Supplement. This book is fun for readers of all ages. It's a collection of comic and narrative verse that rhymes, scans and (mostly!) makes sense-like the tongue-twister Dinah Saw the Dinosaur. The Lady Who Lassoed Me and The Ghost of the Yellowknife Inn both belong in the canon of great narrative ballads written to entertain. The Ghost is a narrative ballad about the epic search for gold in the Canadian Arctic. This book descends from the tradition of light verse by A.A. Milne and Robert Browning, by Alfred Noyes (The Highwayman) and Kipling, and by Robert Service (The Cremation of Sam McGee). It also looks back to comedians whose work was literary, clever and acerbic, like Tony Hancock, Peter Ustinov, Peter Cook, and the Harvard Maths professor Tom Lehrer.
About the Author: Colin Alexander was born in England and educated at Stowe, Magdalen College, Oxford and the Freie Universität in what was then West Berlin. He now lives in Ottawa. During the 1960s and 1970s he was publisher of the newspaper News of the North in Yellowknife, the capital of Canada's Northwest Territories. After moving to southern Canada, he went into the investment business as a trader and newsletter publisher. McGraw-Hill in New York published his books on technical analysis and timing techniques for trading stocks and commodities. In the second edition of The Streetsmart Guide to Timing the Stock Market, published in 2005, the shares of General Motors were used to demonstrate a long-term short sale. The stock was then trading in the $30 range! In 2010 McGraw-Hill published a Chinese edition of Timing Techniques for Commodity Futures Markets, originally published in English in 2007.
