" La vie comme un arc-en-ciel" est un roman du devenir, tant sur le plan individuel/ personnel que sur celui social. L'auteur y présente une enfance hors du commun, dépourvue des petits bonheurs spécifiques à cet âge, qu'elle vit au milieu des adultes, eux-mêmes problématiques - un grand-père introverti et déraciné et une grand-mère traînée par la pauvreté et les névroses inévitables et incontrôlables, canalisés jusqu'à l'absurde contre sa propre fille. Les étapes de l'âge de l'enfant se succèdent sur le fond des changements sociaux-politiques dans la période de transition du pays du capitalisme vers le socialisme, chacune d'entre elles représentant un pas important dans l'arc de la connaissance personnelle. En dépit des entrâves de toutes sortes, la petite Nounouche se réfugie au milieu des livres, qui lui offrent la joie que la famille et la société lui refusent. La bibliothèque devient pour elle un vrai temple et toutes les personnes qu'elle croise sont évaluées par la biais de cette unique réalité morale qu'elle accepte. L'adolescence lui propose d'autres expériences, que Nounouche, devenue Noutzi, assume entièrement, sans aucun support moral de la part des autres; de même, les années de jeunesse se déroulent sur le fond de l'aggravation de la crise du communisme dans un pays faisant partie du bloc de l'Est, où l'anormalité prend la place de la normalité et les individus essaient de s'adapter petit à petit, mimant la normalité comme forme de résistance. Le changement sur le plan politique est aussi brusque du point de vue du personnage, qu'il a été attendu, en accumulant des espérances, des attentes, que l'avenir confirmera ou non. Le fil rouge du livre reste cependant l'effort de survivre d'un intellectuel condamné à refaire tous les jours, comme un Sisyphe, les valeurs foulées aux pieds par les autorités; un intellectuel comme beaucoup d'autres dans le pays, qui ont sacrifié leur propre vie au nom de ces valeurs morales hérités depuis les modèles antiques. Le rythme de la narration est alerte et l'écriture combine d'une façon intéressante des éléments de description pleins de sensibilité aux éléments d'analyse psychologique et socio-politique. La fin du roman reprend, d'une manière moderne, les grandes questions qui ont traversé le livre et au nom desquelles la petite fille, puis la jeune fille et la femme accomplie a initié tous ses gestes qui acquièrent maintenant une valeur symbolique.
