Mario Amengual (Maracay, Venezuela. 1958)Es licenciado en Letras por la Universidad Central de Venezuela (U.C.V.) y actualmente es profesor de los talleres de Literatura I y II en el núcleo de la UCV de Maracay, facultades de Agronomía y Ciencias Veterinarias. Ha sido articulista de opinión en Últimas Noticias, 2001 y El Siglo. Numerosos artículos, ensayos y poemas suyos han aparecido en las publicaciones digitales El Meollo, Letralia y Ala de Cuervo, entre otras, así como en la Revista Nacional de Cultura e Imagen, y en los suplementos literarios de diferentes diarios nacionales y regionales. Ha publicado los siguientes libros: La arboleda deslumbrante (Poemas. Alcaldía de Los Salias, San Antonio de los Altos, 1991); El tiempo de las apariencias (Poemas. Bidandco Editor, Caracas, 2013).---Cuando se labra el lenguaje en el terreno de la poesía, no es dable esperar mucho de los frutos, por lo menos no hay un tiempo fijado para su recolección. Mario lo sabe y espera, aunque a veces sus textos dejen traslucir un furor que puede parecer impaciencia: Pronuncian sus arrogancias / en tono de victorias bélicas, / confiados en que sus palabras emocionantes / ocultarán su vocación de verdugos. Furor comprensible si nos atenemos a la oscura realidad que nos ha tocado vivir, pero no impaciencia porque el poeta sabe, lo ha vivido en carne propia, que el poder de la palabra es inconmensurable y su poder transformador infinito. Aunque nos rodeen la mediocridad y una moral depauperada, el poder transmutador del lenguaje, y en especial el lenguaje poético, jamás perderá su vigencia porque en la cambiante historia de la humanidad siempre hay ciclos donde el espíritu, y con él el lenguaje, ocupan lugar de preeminencia y el individuo y la sociedad viven tiempos de esclarecimiento, lucidez y justicia. Podemos afirmar entonces, sin temor a faltar a la verdad, que la vida poética de Mario ha transcurrido entre las sombras y una luz precaria y breve, entre "el abismo de los cocuyos" y "a la sombra de los destellos". No puede ser de otra manera, en esa dualidad natural de la luz y la sombra oscilamos, y el poeta, hombre siempre vigilante, atento y observador, capta las señales de la verdadera realidad hasta en los hechos más pequeños y poco llamativos de la realidad ordinaria. Y mucho más en los tiempos que corren, tiempo de sombras casi permanentes en el cual la luz se filtra a través de unos pocos individuos, esos que como Mario se han propuesto ser la mala conciencia de su tiempo, a pesar de los nefastos augurios que se ciernen en nuestro horizonte vital: Esta otra mañana de infames noticias, tráfago mercantil y discursos patrioteros, la exalta una niña que, tomada de la mano de su abuela y a cuyas rodillas apenas llega, lleva en su otra mano una flor de cayena como una ofrenda. Por eso no hay que desesperar del presente, porque el poeta está allí observando y de pronto, con el poder de su lenguaje, transforma una realidad deleznable en un destello que anula las sombras: lo que realmente vale la pena ver es a una niña con una flor de cayena en la mano como una ofrenda.Alberto Amengual.
