About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A MAGICAL STORY.A NOVEL ABOUT THE FORCE OF LIFE EVEN IN TIMES OF WAR.

The important one was the Red door. That was where all the interesting stories came in. Itwas the big door. The main door. It was the one who received the best and it was the best at keeping quiet. Because it was the great protagonist of that time, for the good, but also for the bad.

When the Red door flaps its wings, two worlds are connected: a world in which men besiege the earth and fratricidal wars are fought, and that other world in which the gaze of a girl reveals to us what lies on the other side of the storm clouds and bomb blasts.

This girl, who has moved to Grandma Candelaria's housenow that her father has left her, moves among the pots on the fire and the olive groves. Fascinated by nature, little Sacra has some unique friends: Pedro, the pig herder who is a breath of fresh air for the monotonous life of the town; Carmen, with whom Sacra learns to till and love the land; Aunt Isidora, the one with red hair and who everyone knows hides an unspeakable secret, but no one talks about it; the old Don, whose wisdom flows like river water, and finally, a mysterious stranger who appears in town one stormy night. All of them will accompany Sacra on a path of learning that could save her when the sky turns to fire and the Red door can no longer protect her.

With this brilliant debut, Claudia Catalán presents a splendid narrative voice that stands out in the current literary scene.
