Nei suoi film, Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975) ha rappresentato la nudità in tutte le sue accezioni, etiche ed estetiche, liriche e grottesche, convenzionali e sperimentali. La nudità che Pasolini mette in scena non è mai materiale e corporea, ma didascalica e simbolica. L'uso della condizione di nudità, in due film a soggetto di taglio tardo-neorealista come Mamma Roma (1961) e Accattone (1962), apparentemente mondano come Teorema (1968), letterario come Il Decameron (1971) e I racconti di Canterbury (1972), o mitico-favolistico come Il fiore delle mille e una notte (1974), si riferisce spesso alla problematica del sesso, dei tabù e dell'ipocrisia che lo circondano, ieri come oggi, in un incontro/scontro tra cultura popolare e cultura alta, come Pasolini ha spesso dichiarato nella saggistica dei sui scambi con i lettori nelle note raccolte Le belle bandiere, Dialoghi 1960-65 (1977), Il Caos (1979). In realtà questi film contengono inserti che propongono argomenti connessi alla violenza e al sacro, esplicitamente affrontati ne La ricotta (1963) e il Vangelo secondo Matteo (1964). La nudità che il Pasolini regista costruisce nelle inquadrature dei suoi film è, di frequente, nudità del volto e, dunque, nudità che si manifesta attraverso la comunicazione interumana. Questo saggio si prefigge di identificare l'interrelazione tra la sfera del sacro e la rappresentazione della nudità nella pittura a tema evangelico e nel cinema di Pasolini. L'analisi risponde alle seguenti domande: questa relazione è intrinseca o viene ascritta dall'autore ai fini filosofici ed estetici? In quali epoche si delineano questi nessi e per quali canali avviene tale comunicazione? Infine, quali sono i referenti diretti e obliqui del rapporto tra sacro, arte e nudità? Per rispondere a questi punti di indagine, si propone, prima di tutto, un breve excursus nella storia dell'arte figurativa a tema evangelico, e, dall'altra, si fa ricorso alle teorie di René Girard nei suoi libri La violenza e il sacro (1980), Il capro espiatorio (1987) e Il sacrificio (2007).
