Ashling s'est cassé les os une centaine de fois. Elle est née avec une ostéogenèse imparfaite (OI), une maladie osseuse rare qui rend ses os très fragiles et cassants. À cause de cette maladie, Ashling souffre de douleurs chroniques et est souvent hospitalisée. Ashling, 16 ans, voit sa soeur Skylar, 8 ans, tomber et se casser la jambe lors d'un entraînement de ski. Ashling aide Skylar à surmonter sa douleur de la même manière qu'elle le fait habituellement: en utilisant sa machine à rêves, une machine qui évoque des histoires de mondes imaginaires pour la distraire de la douleur. "Skylar: the rainbow seeker" est une histoire captivante d'arcs-en-ciel, de taupe parlante, de renard rusé et de lutin fou de chaussures de sport, grâce à laquelle Ashling ne distrait pas seulement sa soeur, mais lui révèle intelligemment une triste vérité en raison de sa blessure, Skylar ne pourra pas skier pour le reste de la saison ni accepter un parrainage de l'une des plus grandes sociétés de ski alpin pour participer à un camp de ski d'été exclusif.


Candace Amarante est une artiste-chercheure spécialisée dans l'écriture d'histoires et de pièces de théâtre pour enfants. Dans la plupart de ses histoires, elle poursuit deux objectifs principaux: sensibiliser aux droits des enfants par le biais des arts et intégrer, dans la littérature jeunesse, la voix des enfants atteints de maladies chroniques. Son oeuvre la plus récente comprend un poème pour enfants, The Sky Smiles at me (Le ciel me sourit, présenté dans MyGoodnight Bag LEARN Québec et Canadian Parents for French 2021), une pièce sur les droits des enfants, The Ugly Ones (avec Chelsea Woolley; Geordie Theatre 2020), et une pièce pour le jeune public You, Me and Victor Hugo! (Toi, moi et Victor Hugo !) sur le concept de la censure. Elle a publié une courte histoire pour enfants, The Blunder Family: Now Where'd I Put the Pork? (East of the Web 2020), et un livre jeunesse, The Pheasant's Tale or . . . was it Its Tail? (Le conte du faisan ou... Était-ce sa queue ?) (Green Bamboo Publishing 2017). Amarante est titulaire d'un doctorat en sciences politiques de l'Université Columbia, NY. Cette bourse lui permet de passer la majeure partie de son temps à mener des recherches avec des enfants. La Dre Tsimicalis vit à Montréal avec son mari, Tasso, et ses trois enfants, Thanos, Kleio et Leandros. Ils aiment skier ensemble dans les montagnes des Laurentides.
