Cinco décadas han pasado desde que el mundo conoció asombrado la noticia de la muerte de Ernesto Che Guevara, asesinado por las fuerzas militares bolivianas el 9 de octubre de 1967 en La Higuera, una aldea en el sureste de Bolivia.Antes de su ejecución por los disparos de un suboficial, particularmente después, mucho se ha escrito sobre el controvertido guerrillero nacido en Argentina en 1928. Sus años políticos formativos han sido contados muchas veces, incluso por medios visuales, en documentales o en The Motorcycle Diaries, una película de 2004 dirigida por Walter Salles, un cineasta brasileño y con el actor mexicano Gael García-Bernal interpretando al joven Ernesto, en aquel momento, un estudiante de medicina. Como la película muestra, ese recorrido en la década de 1950 por América del Sur en una motocicleta fue, parece, la experiencia fundamental que moldeó la personalidad y la visión del Che sobre el mundo y que lo radicalizó, revelando un activismo revolucionario que se manifestaría en la lucha armada de la Revolución Cubana, más adelante en Zaire, África (actualmente República Democrática del Congo), y terminando en el campo boliviano, donde trató de movilizar a los habitantes de las zonas rurales y crear un movimiento guerrillero hacia una revolución política y socioeconómica en la región y principalmente dirigida a su patria, Argentina, lo que nunca sucedió.El mito, sin embargo, persiste.El hecho de no tener casi nada que agregar a esta monumental obra ha sido compensado por lo que he aprendido de ella. Sin embargo, eran muy jóvenes, en sus 20 años, y hay que decirlo muy valientes, cuando Che Guevara llegó a Bolivia a mediados de los años sesenta.
