About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

This volumen comprises three novels in which Jordi Soler delves into historical facts and into the way these facts influence the lives of a family of exiles--his own--that is trying to survive in the heart of the jungle.

The Foreign Red After losing the war, from a hellish stint in a French concentration camp and a treacherous escape through the south of France ending on the other side of the Atlantic, Arcadi founds La Portutuesa, a community in the middle of the jungle of Veracruz, Mexico, where they speak Catalán, grow coffee, and little by little start to hatch an idea: in order to be able to return to Spain, it's essential to kill Francisco Franco.

The Last Hour of the Last Day In the hacienda called La Portuguesa, a Spanish family's exile has lasted for years. After overcoming the initial sting, now they await the fall of Franco and the coming of the Republic with naïve energy, while beginning to set down roots in this savage territory, overrun by vegetation and all types of outlandish insects; a primitive world where the only things that survive are the things that always existed.

The Festival of the Bear In February of 1939, Oriol disappears without a trace, in the middle of a terrible snow storm. From exile, his brother Arcadi awaits any news about his whereabouts, without losing hope that he is still alive. Oriol's nephew, who is the narrator of this magnificent trilogy, will make an unexpected discovery 65 years later, in the south of France.
