About the Book

English summary: The Fonte Gaia fountain, in Siena's central piazza, is one of the most important and representative monuments of Sienese art. The fountain's public and artistic dimensions place it at the heart of the city's history, providing city residents with water through a complex system of subterranean waterworks, while underlining the city's Roman roots and devotion to the Madonna and urban virtues through its sculptures. The fountain was also a prime example of early Tuscan Renaissance artworks. The collected articles examine the Fonte Gaia's artistic importance as well as its unique role in constructing the city's communal identity. Italian text. Testi di Enrico Toti, Laura Cavazzini, Duccio Balestracci, Sara Dei, Fabio Gabbrielli, Massimo Ferretti, Stefano Landi, Daniela Manna, Anne-Katrin Potthoff, Carlo Lalli, Andrea Cagnini, Natalia Cavalca, Federica Innocenti, Giancarlo Lanterna, Simone Porcinai, Maria Rizzi.
