About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION A revealing and striking book that details for the first time the way that the DEA has intervened in Mexico since its inception in 1973, and how it continues today and into the future ... because it's here to stay. Until now, an investigation like this had never been written. It was suspected that the DEA operated on Mexican turf with total freedom, but there was a lack of evidence such as that presented by J. Jesús Esquivel--Washington correspondent for the weekly paper Proceso--obtained through the direct testimonies of counter-narcotic agents. They tell us how they operate, what their methods of investigation are, how they gather informants, and what their relationship is like with the authorities, the armed forces, and the national police force, as well as with drug dealers and other North American agencies. Finally, always through the lens of the foreign agents, the author reconstructs the war against drugs since the '70s and tells the story of the main crime lords, such as Amado Carrillo Fuentes, Juan García Ábrego, and of course, El Chapo Guzmán, who is not caught because the Mexican government doesn't want to do it, according to those interviewed.
