About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Can a murder become a work of art?

After The Challenge of Florence, Alejandro Corral returns with a thriller that will not disappoint both art and history lovers.

The closer the manuscript deadline gets, the less inspired does Óliver Brun feel. He is a young art history writer and researcher that, after receiving an important literary award, is afraid he won't measure up to the expectations for his second novel. Nothing helps with his writer's block until, one day, at his teacher David Sender's house, he uncovers a secret: he finds enigmatic photos of a young woman and a portrait of her, posing like the Mona Lisa.

Days later, some bones are found at the lake, in the mountain town near Madrid, where David Sender lives. Evidence confirms it's Melisa Nierga, the young woman in the photographs, and the professor is immediately detained by police. Suddenly, Óliver realizes he is not only facing the great story he had been waiting for, but a chilling question: the man who taught him everything, is he a murderer?

Óliver turns to his faculty classmate, Nora, to help him unravel the mystery. Together they discover Latin texts that might link the girl's murder with one of the most beautiful pieces ever painted, a portrait known as "The Prado's Mona Lisa". Is the key to this enigma in the museum's hallways? Or in the deserted town streets where everything happened? In this fascinating novel, Alejandro Corral combines his research of some of the best-kept secrets in art history with a fast-paced thriller set in present time, that draws the reader in from the very first line.
