Mit Hilfe des Internets ist es möglich geworden, Musik legal aber auch illegal aus dem Internet zu beziehen. Experten haben diese Entwicklung schon frühzeitig erkannt und die Plattenfirmen vor einem möglichen Einbruch des Umsatzes gewarnt. Des Weiteren haben Musiker die Möglichkeit aufgrund der immer schneller fortschreitenden Aufnametechnik mittels Computer per Homerecording, ihre selbst geschriebenen Songs in Eigenregie aufzunehmen. Zudem besteht die Möglichkeit seitens der Künstler ohne Deal und unabhängig von Verlegern ihren Vertrieb durch das Internet selbst aufzubauen und somit eventuell zum Global Player aufzusteigen. Die Geschichten und Legenden über Rock- und Popstars gehören zum täglichen Leben und immer wieder fragen sich die Fans von Solokünstlern oder Musikgruppen, ob diese den tatsächlichen Gegebenheiten entsprechen. Der meist im Hintergrund stehende Manager oder auch "Mädchen für Alles" [wie ich ihn hier bezeichnen möchte], der die Fäden in der Hand hält und ohne den der Erfolg eines oder mehrerer Künstler nur schwer möglich wäre, gerät größtenteils in Vergessenheit. Im Gegensatz zu den allgemein gehaltenen Studien über Manager von beispielsweise MINTZBERG, SCHIRMER u. a. liegt der Schwerpunkt dieser Diplomarbeit auf der Fokussierung eines bestimmten Typs: dem Künstlermanager. Aufgrund der oben genannten Marktentwicklung, ist es von großer Relevanz, seinen eventuellen Betroffenheitsgrad zu analysieren.
