Questi Bonz, come vengono chiamati dai francesi, furono i primi alchimisti del mondo, e per secoli andarono alla ricerca della pietra filosofale. L'alchimia fu praticata in Cina dai sacerdoti del Tao molto tempo prima che fosse conosciuta in Europa. Secoli prima, la trasmutazione dei metalli vili in oro e la composizione di un elisir d'immortalità, erano questioni studiate con passione dai taoisti.
