Innovationsfahigkeit von Unternehmen ist ein Themenbereich, der in den letzten Jahren über die Grenzen der Betriebswirtschaftslehre und der Managementpraxis hinaus Beachtung gefunden hat. Auch auf gesellschaftlicher Ebene wird die Innovationsfähigkeit als Erfolgsfaktor diskutiert. Die betriebswirtschaftliehe Forschung zum Innovationsmanagement enthält eine Vielzahl von mehr oder weniger fundierten Aussagen über Erfolgsfaktoren. Kundenorientierung des Inno- vationsprozesses wird - in unterschiedlichsten Ausprägungen - häufig als zentrale Determinante des Erfolgs von Innovationsprojekten genannt. Ein wesentliches Instrument zur Erzielung einer hohen Kundenorientierung im Innovationsbereich ist die Einbindung von Kunden in den Innovationsprozeß. Die diesbezüglichen Aussagen in der Literatur bewegen sich allerdings größtenteils auf recht aggregiertem Niveau. Insbesondere im Hinblick auf speziellere Aspekte der Kundeneinbindung liefern sie kaum Erkenntnisse. Solche speziellen Aspekte können beispielsweise folgende Fragestellungen betreffen: In welchen Phasen sollen Kunden wie intensiv eingebunden werden? Welche Kunden sollen in Innovationsprojekte eingebunden werden? In welcher Form sollen Kunden in den Innovationsprozeß eingebunden werden? Die Arbeit von Kjell Gruner stellt eine fundierte Auseinandersetzung mit der Problematik der Kundeneinbindung in den Innovationsprozeß dar. In diesem Zusammenhang werden auch die genannten Fragestellungen thematisiert. Gruner arbeitet auf einer breiten theoretischen Basis. Besonders hervorzuheben ist auch die methodische Stringenz seiner Untersuchung. Gerade in dieser Hinsicht hebt sich die Arbeit von zahlreichen Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet des Innovations- managements, die in empirisch-methodischer Hinsicht eher"hemdsärmelig" vorgehen, ab. Die Arbeit leistet einen wesentlichen Beitrag zum wissenschaftlichen Kenntnisstand auf dem Gebiet des Innovationsmanagements.
