Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Politik - Internationale Politik - Region: Mittel- und Südamerika, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Geschwister-Scholl-Institut für Politische Wissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Zusammenbruch des Staatssozialismus und Postkommunistische Transition, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Vor 20 Jahren vollzog sich ein tief greifender weltpolitischer Wandel. Der Kommunismus als Staatsentwurf war am Ende. Nur wenige Länder sind verblieben, die offiziell noch kommunistisch sind. Eines dieser Länder ist Kuba. Während 1989 die meisten sozialistischen "Bruderländer" im Ostblock zusammenbrachen, existiert das Regime Kubas auch heute noch. Dies ist durchaus erstaunlich, teilte und teilt doch Kuba viele Gemeinsamkeiten mit den untergegangenen kommunistischen Regimen des Ostblocks. Wirtschaftskrise, soziale Probleme, weit verbreitete Unzufriedenheit in der Bevölkerung, Anzeichen von gesellschaftlichen Unruhen. Und mit dem Untergang der Sowjetunion fiel auch für Kuba der wichtigste Handelspartner aus. Warum also überlebte das Regime in Kuba trotz derselben negativen Vorzeichen wie in den ehemaligen Ostblockstaaten? Zur Beantwortung dieser Frage existieren zahllose Ansätze. Vielen dieser Ansätze scheint jedoch ein schlüssiges theoretisches Grundgerüst zu fehlen. Sie argumentieren sehr empirisch und wirken mitunter spekulativ. Demgegenüber baut Juan López sein Buch "democracy delayed" logisch von der Frage her auf, welche Wege zur Transition es für Kuba, basierend auf der Regimetypologie von Juan J. Linz und Alfred Stepan, gibt. Nach einer kurzen Einführung in die wirtschaftliche Krise der 1990er Jahre, werde ich daher diesem Beispiel folgen und zunächst darauf eingehen, welche Pfade zur Transition nach dem Model von Linz und Stepan für Kuba zur Verfügung stehen. Da nach diesem Model die wahrscheinlichste Option ein Zusammenbruch in Folge von Massenprotesten ist, muss die Frage beantwortet werden, wieso diese bisher ausgeblieben sind. Der S
