Hintergrund der zunehmenden Bedeutung von Unternehmenskooperationen ist vor allen Dingen der intensiver werdende Wettbewerb, der sich durch eine zunehmende Globalisierung und damit verbundenen internationalen Wettbewerb, eine beschleunigte Technologieentwicklung, kürzere Produktlebenszyklen, erhöhte Fixkosten sowie steigenden Markteintrittsbarrieren kennzeichnet. Unternehmen stehen daher vor neuen komplexen Herausforderungen, die sie mit traditionellen, allein auf den Potentialen des einzelnen Unternehmens beruhenden Konzepten nicht mehr bewältigen können. Viele Unternehmen wirtschaften deshalb nicht mehr alleine. Großunternehmen wie auch kleine und mittlere Unternehmen gehen zunehmend eine zwischenbetriebliche Zusammenarbeit ein und machen diese Maßnahme zum zentralen Wettbewerbsfaktor in sich schnell ändernden Märkten. Mehr und mehr Unternehmen erkennen, dass die für den Erfolg und die zukünftige Entwicklung strategisch wichtigen Ressourcen außerhalb der eigenen Firmengrenze liegen. Im Fokus dieser Arbeit steht die Analyse, weshalb Unternehmen aus aktueller theoretischer Sicht Strategische Kooperationen eingehen. Welche Vorteile haben Strategische Kooperationen, um unter den beschriebenen Veränderungen, die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der Unternehmen zu erhöhen. Anschließend wird vor dem Hintergrund der gewonnenen Erkenntnisse ein Blick auf Strategische Kooperationen in der Praxis geworfen.
