Der Leitfaden ist im Anhang zu finden und kann später im Rahmen einer mündlichen Befragung im Face-to-Face-Interview eingesetzt werden. Im empirischen Forschungsprozess kommt der Beschaffung von Informationen beziehungsweise Daten eine zentrale Rolle zu. Es ist der zeitaufwendigste und meist kostenintensivste Teil des Vorhabens, bei dem unterschiedliche Methoden der Datenerhebung zum Einsatz kommen können. Das Interview als mündliche Form der Befragung stellt dabei in der empirischen Sozialforschung die meist angewendete Erhebungsmethode dar. Eine Sonderform bildet das Leitfadeninterview. Beim Leitfaden handelt es sich um eine schriftliche Ausarbeitung von Fragen, an dem sich der Interviewer orientiert. Ziel einer wissenschaftlichen Untersuchung ist es, durch den Einsatz spezieller Methoden Erkenntnisse zu gewinnen beziehungsweise beständiges Wissen zu generieren. Es handelt sich somit um einen Prozess des Problemlösens oder die Frage, wie man zu einer eindeutigen und gesicherten Antwort auf die wissenschaftliche Fragestellung gelangt. Mit Hilfe ausgewählter Datenerhebungsmethoden möchte man vom Ausgangszustand (einer Hypothese) in einen Zielzustand (geprüfte Aussage) gelangen.
