Die Fortschritte der Information und der Dienste und Anwendungen im Internet (WWW, E-Mail, Newsgroups, Website, Web-Chats, Web-Logs) revolutionieren und vervielfältigen. Immer mehr Menschen und Unternehmen kommunizieren im Internet. Die Kommunikation ist zu einem Rohstoff wirtschaftlichen Wachstums geworden. Deswegen bezeichnet man das Internet "das Motor des geschäftlichen Wandels". Was ist denn das Internet überhaupt? Auf diese Frage habe ich noch keine Antwort gefunden. Dieser Begriff beinhaltet nicht nur Menschen mit Zugang zum Internet. Das Internet gehört allen und niemanden. Aber fast jeder Mensch und jedes Unternehmen besitzen ein Internet. Trotzdem ist es immer in Bewegung. Laufend kommen neue Anwendungen, Dienste und bestehende werden ständig verändert. Ich habe in meiner vorliegenden Arbeit versucht, das Internet und dessen Nutzen für Unternehmen genauer zu beschreiben. Gleichzeitig habe ich mich bemüht, auf die Fragen zu antworten, warum und wie kommunizieren wir? welche Rolle spielt das Internet im unternehmerischen Leben, im Bezug auf den Wirtschaftsmarkt? auf welche Weise wird es kommuniziert? welche Vor- und Nachteile bringt das Internet mit sich? und welche Chancen bietet es sich? Der zentrale Mechanismus des Internets ist die Bereitstellung jeglicher Art von Informationen in digitaler Form und ihr Transport von einem Ort zum nächsten. Ausgehend von dieser Basisfunktion kann man sich die Erkenntnisse der Informationswirtschaft zunutze machen. Daher lassen sich in der vorliegenden Arbeit unter Berücksichtigung der Bedeutung von Information und Kommunikation die geschäftlichen Internet- Nutzungsmöglichkeiten systematisieren.
