Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Wie der Abgesang auf die New Economy und den Neuen Markt lesen sich die aktuellen Schlagzeilen der Tageszeitungen und Wirtschaftsmagazine: Da ist die Rede von „Börsen im Sturzflug", bösem „Erwachen" und „Panikverkäufen am Neuen Markt", „postkommunikativer Tristesse" und „düpierten Anlegern". Der Aktionär ist König der börsennotierten Aktiengesellschaft - zumindest theoretisch. Zufrieden aber waren die Kunden nicht mit der Kommunikation deutscher AGs im krisengeschüttelten Jahr 2000. Aus gutem Grund: Viele Unternehmen haben sich angesichts der Kursverluste und Skandalmeldungen am Neuen Markt kommunikativ zurückgezogen. Gemeinsam mit der Financial Community starren sie wie gelähmt auf den Scherbenhaufen, der nach nur vier Jahren vom hoffnungsvoll gestarteten Wachstumssegment der Deutschen Börse übrig geblieben ist. Bis ins Frühjahr 2000 sah das noch ganz anders aus: Der Neue Markt schlug alle Rekorde, und Investments in die dort notierten aufstrebenden Wachstumsunternehmen der viel zitierten New Economy waren in den meisten Fällen wie eine „Lizenz zum Geld drucken", DAX und NEMAX jagten von einem Allzeithoch zum nächsten. Der Neue Markt im Gipfelrausch brachte Börsenlieblinge „mit Kursphantasie" und „Traumfabriken" hervor, wurde zum „Dauer-Los für alle". Investoren - private wie institutionelle - wurden kommunikativ heiß umworben, konnten sich der Flut von Neuemissionen und den damit verbundenen Werbemaßnahmen kaum entziehen. Zusätzlich heizten schier unglaubliche Erfolgsgeschichten das Interesse an der „neuen Ökonomie" an, die die Wirtschaft zu revolutionieren und traditionelle Marktgesetze außer Kraft zu setzen schien. Etliche Start-Up-Unternehmen erreichten unmittelbar nach dem Börsengang ungeahnte Höchstbewertungen und beflügelten selbst die kühnsten Gewinnerwartungen und -fantasien so manches Anlegers.
