About the Book

In the first few years of the 21st century, due to a chance series of events, Coast Guard officer David Kolko stumbles upon a revolutionary scientific breakthrough which enables him to develop a new space engine-a mechanical revelation which thereby aids man in travelling the span of the solar system in a matter of mere hours. Kolko then comes to the immediate realization that such a discovery will now make it possible for man to harvest the enormous wealth that the solar system offers, but also understands that such an opportunity will create a highly destabilizing effect on the social and economic structures present on Earth. Despite his awareness of the potential inherent risks at hand in an indirect challenge to the "powers that be," he decides that he ultimately should be the protagonist of this new and awesome space race and quickly puts himself to work, gathering the necessary resources-as well as the necessary allies, to start his amazing feat. Soon, however, our protagonist finds himself adrift in a path filled with a myriad of obstacles as he tries to reach his ambitious goal, and as word spreads of his discovery, Kolko must prepare himself for a showdown with enemies who are far more determined and ruthless in their opposition to his endeavor than he could have ever imagined. The adventures of our hero unravel in a crescendo of unexpected twists and turns, keeping the reader's steadfast attention until the last page. "Kolko's World" is an intricate work-a well-structured novel that combines action and strategy, "space opera" and social critique.
About the Author: Rodolfo Fontana is the pseudonym that the author has chosen use so that he may share his personal ideas about the future, science and technology with his readers, summarizing his own points of view as they apply to his science fiction works while maintaining his anonymity. He's been an enthusiastic fan of science fiction novels himself since his childhood, when he read just about every sub-genre of science fiction, while nurturing a particular passion for space opera. In terms of his career, Fontana served first in the Navy, working on submarines and on minesweepers, and then continued his career in the Coast Guard, specializing particularly in sea rescue. Due to his great determination, he has been able to contribute to the development of important command and control systems dedicated to the safety of maritime navigation. This novel is the first in a "space opera" trilogy that Fontana has created for his readers, centering on the "world" of the series' protagonist, "David Kolko." The sequel to this novel is "Kolko's World: The Secession," and Fontana is now hard at work on the series' third installment, which has yet to be named. In the three novels, David Kolko revolutionizes the way in which man pioneers his way through the cosmos, while providing readers with a certain level of insight-an insight which is best described as a most astute one in terms of analysis and implementation, as well as philanthropic in its desire to utilize the riches of space for the betterment of all mankind. In addition to his love of "all things science fiction," the author also cherishes his contact with the public and welcomes a "free exchange of ideas" with his readers. If you'd like to contact Mr. Fontana, you may write to him at his email address: rodolfo0fontana@gmail.com.
