Eine grundlegende Bedingung fur erfolgreiches Lernen mit Multimedia stellt dabei die mentale Integration der vielfaltigen Informationen zu einem koharenten Ganzen dar. Dieser Koharenzbildungsprozess ist das zentrale Thema des vorliegenden Buches. Er wird anhand einer multimedialen Lernumgebung untersucht, in der es gilt, Informationen aus Texten und Bildern auf einander zu beziehen. Aufbauend auf einer umfassenden Darstellung des aktuellen Forschungsstandes zum Lernen mit Text und Bild werden zwei empirische Studien berichtet, in denen die Wirkung verschiedener Koharenzbildungshilfen untersucht wird. Hierbei handelt es sich zum einen um grafische Hinweisreize, die das Herstellen von Bezugen zwischen Text und Bild erleichtern sollen, zum anderen um eine Strategiehilfe, die auf eine strukturierte Lenkung der Verarbeitungsprozesse abzielt. Die Wirkung dieser Hilfen wird im Zusammenspiel mit verschiedenen Lernervariablen analysiert, wie dem raumlichen Vorstellungsvermogen und der Selbstwirksamkeitserwartung. Dabei werden sowohl die Ergebnisse des Lernens als auch die Lernprozesse betrachtet. Wahrend die aktuellen Theorien zum Lernen mit Multimedia das Ausmass der kognitiven Belastung beim Lernen in den Mittelpunkt stellen, zeigen die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit die Bedeutsamkeit der metakognitiven Bewertung des Materials und der individuellen Lernvoraussetzungen. Als theoretische Neuerung wird eine begriffspsychologische Konzeption der Koharenzbildung vorgestellt.
